Dili, 7–8 August 2025
At the conference, the AEMTL President, Mrs. Hergui Luina Fernandes Alves, served as a panelist on the topic “Doing Business in Timor-Leste,” alongside moderator Mr. David Freedman (Resident Representative, World Bank Group), Ms. Pamela Jape (Managing Director, Jape Group Australia), Mr. Shane Walden (Managing Director, ANL Container Line, and Australia’s Business Champion to Timor-Leste).
This panel brought together business leaders operating in Timor-Leste’s evolving commercial landscape. From tourism and agriculture to services and retail, the panelists shared insights on opportunities, risks, and realities faced when doing business in Timor-Leste. The discussion also addressed relevant policies, exploring what works, what does not, and why investors can succeed in the long term in this emerging Southeast Asian market.
In addition, the AEMTL President participated as a second-time panelist in a session on the topic “Unlocking Opportunities in Special Agricultural Products,” alongside moderator Professor Brett Inder (Monash Business School), Mr. Bobby Lay (Executive Director, Timor Global), and Mr. Nur Rahman (additional panel member, TBD).
Timor-Leste’s agriculture sector is no longer limited to traditional products; it is increasingly diversifying into a range of high-value agricultural products such as vanilla, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, specialty coffee, and other specialty goods.
