Women in Business Awards

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Associação Empresarial das Mulheres de Timor-Leste (AEMTL), in partnership with the Government of Australia, are delighted to host Timor-Leste’s first Women in Business Awards.

The Awards aim to:

Celebrate women who excel in their careers, businesses and entrepreneurship while serving as role models for others

Appreciate and encourage legislative, public and private executive authorities, and civil society for their contribution towards gender equality, diversity, good governance and financial inclusion

Show appreciation for institutional and individual efforts, initiatives and projects that target mainstreaming diversity and financial inclusion of women.

AWARD CATEGORIES AND NOMINATION CRITERIA

ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT INITIATIVE

Best Example of an Initiative/ Project Promoting Financial Inclusion for Women: This category recognizes an initiative/program that has effectively promoted women’s financial inclusion.

Best Example of an Initiative/ Project Promoting Entrepreneurship for Women: This category recognizes an initiative/program that has effectively promoted the presence and growth of women led businesses in the MSME sector.

PROFESSIONAL CAPACITY BUILDING

Best Example of Outstanding Mentorship/Coaching for Promoting Women’s Economic Empowerment (Individual): This category recognizes exceptional mentorship or coaching efforts that have empowered women to be economically independent and have significantly contributed to the professional growth and development of women.

Best Learning or Training Initiative Focused on Financial and Business Skills for Women (Organization/Company): This category celebrates the best learning or training programs that are specifically designed to enhance the financial and business/management skills and knowledge of women, provided by an organization or company.

WOMEN LED BUSINESS

Top Women-led Business Owners of the Year (more than 2 years): This category recognizes a female business owner who has successfully led her business for more than two years, demonstrating excellence and leadership

Top Woman-led Start-up of the Year (less than 2 years): This category recognizes a woman-led start-up that has shown remarkable innovation and growth within its first two years of operation.

WOMEN IN MANAGEMENT

Women Corporate Leader of the Year (Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer/Chairman/President of Council of Administration): This category honors a top female executive who has shown exceptional leadership and management skills in her role.

Career Role Model of the Year: This category celebrates a woman who has served as an inspiring corporate leader and career role model to women through her mentorship, achievements and contributions to the community.

WOMEN IN FINANCIAL SERVICES

Woman Leader in the Financial Services Sector (Individual): This category honors a woman who has demonstrated outstanding leadership within the financial services sector, driving significant impact and change. 

Best Gender-Focused Financial Innovation (Organization/Company): This category recognises innovative solutions or products in the financial services sector that specifically focus on gender inclusivity.

Nomination Requirements

  • Anyone may submit a nomination (Self nominations or nominate another) for the Women in Business Awards with the candidate’s permission.
  • Nominations are open to individuals of all nationalities.
  • Nominees can be from the public sector, corporate sector, associations, or non-government organizations.
  • Only businesses based in Timor-Leste are eligible for nomination.
  • Nominees cannot be a judge or affiliated to a judge on the Awards Committee.
  • Nominations can be submitted for 1 to 3 categories only. Judges reserve the right to place nominees in the most suitable category based on their profile, which may differ from the categories initially selected by the nominator.
  • Nominations must clearly explain why the candidate stands out for the selected award. Sufficient information highlighting the nominee’s individual and corporate achievements is required.
  • Winners must attend the Award Ceremony in Dili to receive their award in person. Awards will not be couriered to winners.
